Your privacy, in plain words

I built this tool for people who are starting over in a new country. The last thing you need is to wonder what happened to your information. So here is all of it, written the way I would explain it to a friend.

Your resume never leaves your device.

When you upload your resume, it is read and scored right inside your browser — on your own phone or computer. The file is not uploaded to me. It is not uploaded anywhere. I never see it, and neither does anyone else. When you close the tab, it is gone.

That is not a promise about how careful I am. It is how the tool is built. There is no code in it that could send your resume anywhere.

So what do you actually collect?

Nothing at all, unless you type your email address into the box at the end and press the button. Using the tool, getting your score, reading every single fix — all of that is free and anonymous. You never have to give me anything.

If you do give me your email, here is exactly what I get:

Everything that is sent when you submit the form. There is nothing else.

Your score out of 100, and the job role you picked So when I write back, I know what you are working towards instead of asking you all over again.
A record of what you agreed to The exact words you saw, the boxes you ticked, and the date. This protects you as much as me — it is how I can prove I only sent you what you said yes to.
Your IP address and roughly which city you connected from I do not ask for this. Every website gets it automatically when your browser sends anything. I am telling you because it is true, not because I use it.
What I never collect

Your resume, or any words from inside it. Your name, unless you tell me. Your phone number. Your immigration status. Where you work now. I do not ask for any of it, and there is nowhere on this tool to give it to me.

One extra box, only if you tick it

There may be a third checkbox that asks whether you want to share which checks your resume did not pass. That sends me a short list like "missing dates" or "summary too long" — the names of the checks, nothing you wrote. It is off unless you turn it on, and you get your report either way.

Who else can see it?

I am one person, not a company with a data team. So I use a few normal tools to run this, and those tools touch your email address. I would rather name them than tell you a comfortable half-truth:

That is the whole list. I do not sell your information, and I do not trade it or hand it to advertisers. If that ever changes, I would have to come back and ask you first — and I have no plans to.

These tools keep your information in the United States

Both of them store data on computers outside Canada, mostly in the US. That means while your information is there, US authorities could ask for it under their own laws, and Canadian privacy law cannot fully prevent that. This is normal for almost every online tool you already use, but you deserve to be told rather than left to assume.

Your resume is not affected by any of this. It never goes to either service, because it never leaves your browser.

How long do you keep it?

Just asked for your report Up to 12 months, then I delete the address.
Also said yes to tips For as long as you want them. You can stop any time, and I will drop you off the list.
Unsubscribed I keep your address on a "do not email" list forever. That sounds backwards, but it is the only way to make sure you never get added back by mistake.

Your score and the role you picked get deleted after 12 months. The record of what you agreed to is kept for three years after the last email I send you, because that is how long I could be asked to show that I had your permission.

How do I get out, or get it deleted?

Whatever you want to do, one email does it. No forms, no phone call, no reason needed.

One honest exception: if you unsubscribe, your address stays on the "do not email" list, and the record of what you originally agreed to stays too. Those two things exist to protect you, and deleting them is how people end up back on mailing lists they left. Everything else goes.

Is anything decided about me automatically?

Your score is worked out by a fixed checklist running in your browser — the same checks for everyone, every time. It is not a judgment about you and it does not go on any record. Nobody sees it but you, unless you send it to me.

What if something goes wrong?

If information about you was ever exposed and there was a real risk of it causing you harm, I would tell you, and I would tell Canada's Privacy Commissioner. I keep a written record of anything like that for two years.

If you are ever unhappy with how I handled your information, please tell me first — I would genuinely rather fix it. If I cannot put it right, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or to the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia. Those services are free.

Two last things

I am a financial and career coach, not a licensed investment advisor, an immigration consultant, or a lawyer. This tool gives you general, educational feedback on a document. It is not personal financial, legal or immigration advice, and it cannot promise you a job or an interview.

The tool is free and it stays free. Your score and every fix are yours whether or not you give me your email. That is not a trick and there is no wall further down the page.

If I ever change what I collect, I will change this page on the same day, and the date at the top will tell you when.
